The Brazilian Southwest Florida Chamber of Commerce was officially launched at SeaPort Manatee, marking a significant step towards strengthening ties between the Brazilian community and local businesses. The event, held on September 25, 2024, brought together government officials, business leaders, and members of the Brazilian diaspora, highlighting the growing importance of this economic partnership.
Ambassador André Odenbreit, the Brazilian Ambassador in Miami and Co-President of the new chamber delivered a powerful speech emphasizing the commitment of the Brazilian Consulate General to engage more closely with the Brazilian community in Florida. “If the person cannot go to the consulate, the consulate goes to the person,” Odenbreit stated, reflecting the consulate's initiative to increase accessibility and support for Brazilians living in the region.
Odenbreit, who assumed his role at the consulate on April 11, brings a wealth of diplomatic experience from postings in Buenos Aires, Moscow, and London, as well as work with the European Union in Brussels. His leadership is expected to foster greater collaboration and business development opportunities between Brazil and Florida.
The most prominent Latin American companies in Florida sent representatives to the event, where entrepreneurs celebrated the establishment of the chamber of commerce. The CEO of Onevox Creative Solutions noted that over the past eight years, the company has witnessed significant growth in Brazilian businesses in Florida. He also highlighted that Onevox is dedicated to promoting business both within the United States and on an international scale.
Carlo Barbieri, a prominent economist and consultant with over 40 years of experience in Florida, was also present and took on the role of President of the Chamber. During the launch event, he highlighted the chamber's significance, particularly given the impressive commercial trade figures between Brazil and the Port of Manatee. “The new chamber is definitely important based on the expressive numbers of commercial trade between Brazil and the Port of Manatee,” Barbieri remarked. “We are excited to facilitate connections that will further enhance economic opportunities for both regions.”
The Brazilian Southwest Florida Chamber of Commerce aims to serve as a vital resource for Brazilian entrepreneurs and businesses, providing networking opportunities, resources, and advocacy to strengthen economic ties. The launch marks a promising chapter in fostering collaboration and promoting the vibrant Brazilian culture within Southwest Florida.
As the chamber begins its work, both Odenbreit and Barbieri expressed optimism about the future, envisioning a thriving community where Brazilian businesses can flourish and contribute to the local economy.
